| cohen's abscess 6.12.2012 |

Well Cohen's abscess came back yet again. This time while Bryan was out of town. Talk about panic attack. I am constantly checking him to see if it comes back. This time around I was thinking I was just being silly thinking it would come back. But NOPE, not silly at all. The morning I found it Bryan was in meetings with a client, and therefore not only was he across the country, but completely unavailable to get a hold of as well. I just sobbed when I found it. I wasn't prepared for another hospital trip and especially not one with Bryan gone. I called Shelli to help get my head screwed back on, and to calm me down. I called the doc and we went to meet with him that afternoon. We both felt like we really needed to do an ultrasound and see if we could find out the reason for this recurrence. So I headed of to Primary Children's (luckily the Riverton office)

He was so darn cute while they did the ultrasound. Just laid there patiently for a VERY long ultrasound. He would just smile and coo at me. I love this picture of him. Cute little bum cheeks showing. And look at the chub!

The radiologist came in and looked at him while we were there and then we did a conference call with the doctor. The doctor was sure he had a fistula, but the radiologist was sure he didn't. The doctor then called the surgeon and he suggested we do one more lance on it before we tried the surgery route again.

So the next day we went back to the doctor and he did a little in office surgery on him. Which is horrible mind you. They numbed him up the best they could and then had me pin him down so he couldn't wiggle. It took several times of him cutting him open to get any puss to drain out, but finally was able to. Poor little guy didn't seem too comfortable, but he is such a trooper.

I was told at this point to just make sure the abscess continued to decrease in size and to give him antibiotics. We luckily didn't have to stay at any hospitals this time, but had plenty of doctor visits. Bryan flew home a day early from his trip since we thought he may need surgery, even though he didn't it was very nice to have Bryan home. I was so emotionally exhausted from all of this.

I was glad this go round wasn't quite as intense and that is seemed to really help. And was even more glad I was able to do all of this stuff on an outpatient basis instead of being trapped in the hospital.

And once again...I wish I could say this story was over at this point. But stay tuned for round 3!!! Blah. (It is taking me a while to catch up, but I want to be able to document all of it, especially since some of the info I have documented has come in handy with all the doctor visits!)

Oh! He is just the sweetest boy! My heart breaks for all that he has had to endure. But as I said before, hopefully the third time will be the last!

I don't know how much help I was getting your head screwed on, but you can call me anytime! He is such a cute little guy, and it is NEVER fun to watch them go through that kind of stuff. Especially when you are the one that has to hold them down.
